The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Virginia State University (VSU), United States, to establish a framework for academic and institutional collaboration between the two universities.

The partnership was facilitated by the Chancellor of KNUST and Asantehene, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as part of efforts to strengthen educational and scholarly ties between Ghana and the United States.

The MoU was signed on 27th August 2026 by the Chairman of the KNUST Governing Council, Akyamfour Asafo Boakye Agyemang-Bonsu, on behalf of KNUST, and the President of Virginia State University, Dr. Makola M. Abdullah, on behalf of VSU.

The agreement provides a framework for the two institutions to pursue areas of mutual academic interest and develop initiatives that advance their respective educational and institutional goals.

The collaboration is expected to deepen academic engagement between KNUST and Virginia State University while strengthening educational, cultural and scholarly cooperation between Ghana and the United States.

Virginia State University, located in Petersburg, Virginia, is a public historically Black university founded in 1882. The partnership adds to KNUST’s growing network of international collaborations aimed at expanding global academic engagement, knowledge exchange and institutional development.

The agreement also reflects efforts by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as Chancellor of KNUST, to leverage international relationships to advance the University’s academic development and global reach.
